Junior C’s off to a perfect start

On a rainy October Sunday morning in Shanagarry, our second team commenced their East Cork Junior C Hurling Championship with a well earned win against Bride Rovers.

It is testament to the hard work of joint managers Chris Scanlon and Noel O’Brien that we fielded a strong team with a mix of experience and youth. It was obvious to see that many of this team have been training all year with the Premier Junior team, and their sharpness in hurling meant that we led 0-08 to 0-01 at half time, albeit with a strong wind advantage. Scorer in chief Cormac Aherne doing most of the damage from the centre forward position.

With an expected improvement coming from Bride Rovers in the second half, three Russell Rovers goals were crucial to the outcome, and it meant that the experienced backline of Matthew Fitzgerald, Anthony Archer and Stephen Walsh kept the ever impressive Stevie Cronin safe in the Rovers goal.

Final Score:

Russell Rovers 3-11

Bride Rovers 0-15

This leaves us with one win from one in our group, with Carraig na bhFear up next on October 16th, and the final group game against St Catherines to follow.
